Assistants Limousine and a Professional Con
Convincing people that you are actually a celebrity often requires you to look quite similar in appearance to that celebrity you are trying to impersonate. However, if you are unlucky enough not to resemble a celebrity, then why not impersonate their personal assistant who probably has just as much clout as the celebrity themselves and could look like anyone.
This is the theory which Brian Taulman from Sarasota used when scamming a local limo hire company into believing he was Stephen King’s personal assistant. A local limo hire company tells of how Taulman scammed them out of a seven hour limousine ride and how he did the same thing to a second limo hire company and a taxi driver, using the name Bruce Turpin and claiming to be Stephen King’s personal assistant.
After realising they were scammed, the limo hire company alerted others in the area and this is how Taulman was caught. Taulman liked the taste of riding in a limousine so much, that he couldn’t resist pulling the same scam again, on another limo hire company just two days later. Unfortunately for Taulman, the second limo hire company saw this twist in the plot and this allowed them to catch and turn in the conman.
The first limousine hire company is out over US $600 for the ride which Taulman skipped out on and doesn’t expect to ever see the fare. However, seeing the conman in jail is in some ways payment enough. Police are still investigating Taulman, but they believe this is not the first time he has used the identity of Stephen King’s PA and that he is likely to have scammed other businesses and services under the disguise.
Taulman had unfortunately become quite good at pretending to be someone else, but was not quite clever enough to move on to a new town when skipping out on a limousine hire fare.
